Swim Stadium to Receive $2 Million From Fund

A $2-million grant of surplus funds from the 1984 Olympics was awarded Friday for improvement of the Los Angeles Swim Stadium next to the Coliseum and to aid building a community center and gymnasium.

The grant to the Exposition Park Intergenerational Community Center was made by the Amateur Athletic Foundation, the successor group to the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee. It will pay for part of a $28.3-million project involving public and private funds.

“This project will ensure that youngsters in the area will continue to have access to the only 50-meter pool in the central area of Los Angeles and finally have a public, multi-court, multiuse gymnasium,” said John C. Argue, the foundation chairman.
