Divers Pull Dozens of Bodies From Bus
Rescuers laid out rows of bloated bodies in southern India as the death toll from the plunge of a crowded bus into a lake climbed to 94. The bodies of at least 69 people who were trapped inside the wreckage were pulled out as distraught relatives stood by in Davangere, a textile town. The privately owned bus was carrying at least 119 people Monday when one of its tires burst on a bridge, sending the vehicle plummeting 30 feet into the lake. Rescue work was delayed because divers had difficulty breaking into the bus, which split in two and lay embedded in silt at the bottom of the lake. Only the wheels were visible above the water.
