There Were No Winners in This Fight

If it weren’t so pathetic it would be funny. Chan Ho Park has nothing on Johnnie Cochran. How convenient for Park to play the “race card” in order to shift the focus of the discussion away from his bush-league behavior. They should tack a few more days onto his suspension for impugning Tim Belcher’s good name. Park may have great stuff, but he’ll never be the man Tim Belcher is.

He says he has nothing to base it on, but Chan Ho Park apparently feels picked upon for his nationality. I don’t know if this is how he justifies trying to kick Tim Belcher in the face with his spikes, but I strongly suggest he seek medical attention to have that chip removed from his shoulder before someone explains to him another use for the baseball bat.

Tim Belcher, these comments were attributed to you in the June 8 Angel Report regarding Chan Ho’s kick.

1. “I like to hunt--I didn’t bring a shotgun.” Lucky for us. And lucky for you Chan Ho didn’t whip some ninja stars out of his belt and fling one into your xenophobic forehead.

2. “ . . . he can be taught the appropriate behavior.” Maybe we can roll up a newspaper and whack Chan Ho on the rear every time he messes up one of “Belcher’s Rules on Appropriate Behavior.” My favorite is the rule on giving your opponent a hug while tagging him out. And then cursing at him when he takes exception to your affection.

3. “The guy tried to take my head off. I just don’t think there’s a place for that.” What were you trying to do when you got Chan Ho into a headlock at the bottom of the pile and tried to whale on his head? My bad, those must have been noogies. That silly Chan Ho.

4. “ . . . there are certain unwritten rules in the game.” Darn, Chan Ho’s bad. After Walbeck’s grand slam, wasn’t Chan Ho supposed to throw a 90-mph fastball at the next batter’s head? Isn’t that an unwritten rule? I’ve seen it done more often than kicks thrown during a basebrawl, so it must be appropriate behavior.

So Gary DiSarcina is questioning Chan Ho Park’s intelligence? Well, at least Park was smart enough not to walk straight into the path of a fungo bat and break his arm. And I’m saying this as an anti-Dodger, die-hard Angel fan.
