Still procrastinating about the Y2K computer bug? Too tired from running your small business to give it much thought? Thanks to the Department of Commerce, you don’t even have to get up from the couch to find out what to do.

The agency, in conjunction with public television stations nationwide, has begun airing a documentary to educate small- and medium-sized business owners about the millennium computer glitch. But don’t expect a sensationalized, end-is-near horror show.

“Y2K: Preparing for the Challenge” is being billed as a “balanced view” of the problem, meant to motivate entrepreneurs to action rather than paralyze them with fear. It features interviews with 22 experts from around the world and makes some common-sense suggestions on how to get ready.

Local business owners can catch the next showing of the one-hour program at 11 a.m. Thursday and 9 p.m. June 24 on KLCS-TV Channel 58.

The Commerce Department also is offering business owners a free CD-ROM to help them craft a Y2K action plan. It’s available in 11 languages and can be downloaded free at (https://www.doc.gov/y2k). Or call (800) Y2K-7557 and ask for a copy of the Self-Help Tool.
