Group Acts to Curb Child Labor Abuses
The International Labor Organization, or ILO, adopted a treaty banning the worst forms of child labor, including slavery and trafficking. At its annual meeting, the Geneva-based U.N. agency also banned Myanmar, formerly Burma, from receiving aid or attending meetings until it halts forced labor, an agency spokesman said. The agency’s 174 member states, as well as workers and employers’ representatives, voted by an overwhelming majority to adopt the resolution. “This is as isolated as a country can get in the ILO,” spokesman John Doohan said.
