Computer Firm Exploring Alternatives

Network Computing Devices Inc. hired investment firm PaineWebber Inc. to help it explore alternatives, including a merger or sale, for the company, saying that its size limits its marketing capabilities. The Mountain View, Calif.-based company makes so-called thin client systems that are connected to central server computers.
