Raul Ibanez’s run-scoring single in the 12th inning gave the Seattle Mariners a 2-1 victory Tuesday night over the Oakland Athletics, who have lost six consecutive games.

Edgar Martinez led off the 12th with a single to center and pinch-runner Charles Gipson moved to second on David Segui’s sacrifice. Ibanez then lined a single to center off T.J. Mathews (6-3), who came in to start the 12th.

Jose Paniagua (5-6), who gave up one hit in two scoreless innings and struck out three, got the victory. Jose Mesa pitched the 12th for his 17th save in 19 opportunities.

The A’s tied the game, 1-1, in the seventh when Ramon Hernandez, making his major league debut, had a run-scoring single. Hernandez, a catcher who had a bunt single in his first at-bat, was called up Sunday when Mike Macfarlane went on the disabled list with two sprained thumbs.

John Halama gave up one run in nine innings for the Mariners. Halama, one of three players obtained from Houston last year in the Randy Johnson trade, gave up eight singles and struck out five while walking three.

Dan Wilson had a run-scoring single in the second inning for the Mariners, who have won three in a row.
