The Palestinian Authority and Japan on Sunday signed an agreement granting $5.2 million in medical equipment to a university in Jerusalem.

Al Quds University’s medical college, which has about 420 students, is the only Palestinian school of medicine.

Officials from both sides expect that the equipment will lead to an improvement in health services for Palestinians.

Nabil Shaath, the Palestinian Authority’s minister of planning, said the grant demonstrated political support for Palestinians.

Japan has pledged $200 million in projects for the Palestinians in 1999 and 2000.
