Bluthenthal, Lakey Are Playing More

Share

With the season winding down, forwards David Bluthenthal and Greg Lakey are watching their minutes go up.

Bluthenthal, a freshman, saw significant action against Washington and Washington State. Lakey played 21 minutes against the Cougars, finishing with eight points, six rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots.

“We’re having more of a rotation,” Lakey said. “Once you get in there, you try to do as much as you can to stay in there.”

That has allowed a fatigued Brian Scalabrine to cut back a little on the team-high 32 minutes he was averaging. But not everyone is benefiting from the current rotation.

Junior forward Jarvis Turner has played only six minutes in the last five games, missing the Washington game complaining of flu symptoms. And sophomore Shannon Swillis, the top returning rebounder, plays little.

While Elias Ayuso scored 18 points in what figured to be his last home game at the Sports Arena on Saturday, two other seniors said quieter goodbyes to the home crowd.

Adam Spanich, whose last-second shots beat Arizona last year and Oregon earlier this season, had eight points, three rebounds and two assists against Washington State.

Seymour Daffeh, a walk-on forward, played the final two minutes.

Coming up: Thursday at Arizona, Saturday at Arizona State.
