Activists Freed After Dissidents’ Trial
Cuban security forces released some of the scores of activists detained during the sedition trial of four well-known dissidents. Cuba accused the four dissidents of promoting aggressive U.S. policies toward their homeland. A verdict is pending after Monday’s trial, which has focused international attention on Cuba’s human rights policies. The tribunal has until March 17 to issue a decision. The ruling could hold international repercussions for Cuba, which has been working to improve its ties with other nations, particularly in the Caribbean and Latin America.
