Colombia Rebels Return Corpse
Marxist rebels Tuesday handed over the corpse of a French geologist who apparently died of a heart attack after being kidnapped about 3 1/2 months ago in an oil-rich region of eastern Colombia, authorities said.
Claude Steinmentz, working under contract for BP Amoco, was the fourth foreign kidnapping victim to have died in Colombia within the last week.
The bodies of three American activists were to be returned home today after being found dumped over Colombia’s border with Venezuela on Thursday, a week after being abducted, allegedly by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia.
A regional field officer for the International Committee of the Red Cross said Steinmentz’s body was handed over by the National Liberation Army, the country’s second-largest guerrilla group.
