Tax Preparation Help Offered to Seniors
Trained volunteers from the American Assn. of Retired Persons are offering free tax preparation assistance to people 60 and older.
Middle- and low-income taxpayers are eligible for the program, which will run through April 15 at various sites.
Volunteers have been trained in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service to expedite the filing process and explain the special provisions pertaining to older people.
The program is offered at more than 10,000 sites around the country, including senior centers and libraries.
The service is also available for the homebound.
There are nine local sites, including the Bernardi Multipurpose Center, 6514 Sylmar Ave., Van Nuys; the Mid Valley Senior Center, 14450 Valerio St., Van Nuys; and the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center, 22900 Market St.
