If an emergency strikes at Edison High School, fear not: student Chris Meschuk is on the case. The 17-year-old Boy Scout hopes to earn Eagle Scout status by installing antennas to improve the city’s emergency response system at the five local school districts.

“It’s going to speed up the process so emergency services can be dispatched more quickly,” Chris said. “It could benefit the kids, and even save more lives.” Chris came up with the idea after talking with a volunteer for the Huntington Beach Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service. The system serves the Ocean View, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach City, Huntington Beach Union High School and Westminster school districts.
