TUSTIN

Longtime resident Jane Anderson continues to merit her title as the Susan Lucci of Planning Commission applicants. When nominated by Councilman Jim Potts on Monday to fill a vacated position on the five-member advisory board, Anderson received only two of the necessary three council votes. It marked the sixth time Anderson has been passed over for appointment, still a far cry from the more than 15 Emmy losses daytime serial actress Lucci has accrued in the past two decades. Instead, the council appointed political newcomer Tony Kawashima, a Tustin Ranch resident, to the seat, which was vacated when Commissioner Paul Jones announced he would quit due to a potential conflict of interest. Jones recently became the new general manager of the Irvine Ranch Water District, which serves Tustin.
