The City Council has asked city staff to write to the state Legislature requesting the adoption of resolutions banning the use of a potentially harmful gasoline additive that pollutes local ground water. A recent study conducted by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory revealed that the additive, called methyl tertiary-buryl ether, is prevalent in the state’s shallow ground water due to leaky storage tanks and gas-powered watercraft.
