The top two leaders of Mexico’s ruling party resigned, aiming to breathe new life into the political group as it prepares for the presidential campaign. The decision by party President Mariano Palacios Alcocer and Secretary-General Carlos Rojas Gutierrez surprised many at the start of a session of the party’s governing council. Their replacements will be chosen through a democratic election by party members--a first for the Institutional Revolutionary Party, or PRI.
