* So now Al Gore invented the Internet (“Lott Clips Gore’s Claim of Creating the Internet.’ March 14). Cool! I thought it was a bunch of people who were pretty crazy and had an idea of passing information back and forth to one another.

Did the good VP also invent the bit and the byte? Since he claims that it was his work in Congress supporting the concept of the Internet and the Internet transfers data and data is essentially bits and bytes could he not claim that he also invented that? I do know that he invented a real ciil phrase, “there is no controlling authority,” when describing apossible defense to his campaign finance antics.

By the way, using the same logic that he was in the right place at the right time, it would seem more logical to credit him with the loss of nuclear secrets to China. While he was “courting” the Chinese and the Chinese were trying to collect our secrets and influence our political system and he was soliciting funds for them and they were looking for favors . . . yeah, I will give him credit for the Internet if he will accept responsibility for the Chinese disaster.

* Up until Gore’s announcement, all I knew of his inventions was global warming. And now, the Internet too? Wow, what a guy!
