Law Center Gives School Library $500

* The Santa Paula High School Library was awarded $500 from the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Ala. The library will use the money to purchase biographies of prominent minority heroes, plus accompanying computer software. The “Teaching Tolerance” grant project aims to give students “the opportunity to learn about minorities in history through reading and to improve their general literacy.”

Kiwanis Club to Present Fellowship

* The Ventura Suburban Kiwanis Club will present club member Frank Cavola with the George F. Hixson Fellowship during ceremonies March 26.

The fellowship was founded in 1983 to honor Hixson, the first president of Kiwanis International, and to build the endowment fund of the International Foundation.

Cavola is club chairman for a Kiwanis worldwide service project, iodine deficiency disorder, and has led a fund-raising campaign that resulted in a contribution of $1,000.
