Reading Incentives

Re “Luring Students to Literature,” March 14:

As a kid who did not enjoy reading in elementary school, I thought that the reading incentive program was a great idea. Young kids nowadays do not realize how important learning how to read is. This program, which inspires kids to read more and more for prizes and gifts, will attract many other youngsters when they see the rewards given. The money that funds this program seems like a lot, but is it enough to provide the program to most other schools and clubs in California?
