Re “Split or Overlay, the 411 on Area Codes is Chaos,” April 18.

Congratulations to Assemblyman Wally Knox for helping consumers battle the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) and the phone companies regarding the outrageous proliferation of new area codes.

There are plenty of numbers available; they’re just not being used efficiently. In addition to that, why do cell phones and pagers need to share an area code with residential areas?

There is no sense to this. It’s stupid. It’s the PUC.
