Manufacturing, Distribution Facility Opening in Paramount

The Paramount Manufacturing & Distribution Center, a 200,000-square-foot warehousing and manufacturing facility, will open today in Paramount.

The building, erected on land reclaimed from abandoned industrial buildings, has already leased space to businesses employing 350 people, said Jess Carbajal of the Paramount Community and Economic Development Department.

The facility, with high ceilings and 50 loading docks, reflects renewed interest in leasing distribution and manufacturing space in the so-called Gateway Cities, which include Paramount, South Gate and Compton among others, because of their available labor pool and freeway access to Los Angeles International Airport and to the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. The Alameda Corridor rail transport system, now under construction, will only increase demand for space in these adjacent cities.

Paramount now has a 4% vacancy rate in commercial and industrial space, Carbajal said, but the city is continuing to develop vacant land to meet growing demand.
