Computer memory maker Viking Components Inc. said Tuesday that industry veteran Sam Inman III has been appointed co-chief executive officer, a post he will share with founder Glenn McCusker.

Each executive has skills that will help the rapidly growing Rancho Santa Margarita-based Viking, the company said.

Inman’s duties will include managing Viking’s finances, manufacturing and engineering. McCusker will head sales, marketing, purchasing and international business operations.

“When you’ve got two guys in a boat rowing in the same direction, the boat moves forward faster, longer and more efficiently,” Inman said. McCusker could not be reached for comment.

Inman was previously chief executive of Centura Software Corp. in Menlo Park. Before that, he was briefly chief executive of Santa Ana-based Ingram Micro Inc., the world’s largest microcomputer products distributor. He also spent 21 years at IBM, where he was president of IBM’s Personal Computer Co. for the Americas.
