Many Mansions Gets OK to Acquire Motel

An 11-month-old lawsuit between Village Inn Motel and Many Mansions has been settled, giving Many Mansions the right to buy the motel and convert it into low-cost housing.

Many Mansions tried to buy the motel at 1425 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd. last June. The company planned to use a $2.3-million grant from the state and city to convert the motel into a multipurpose public benefit center.

The center would include low-cost housing and provide space to the Waverly Adult School, the county Sheriff’s Department, and Public Social Services.

But the day before escrow was expected to close, the motel’s owners backed out of the deal, Many Mansions officials said. Mansions sued and, in a settlement agreement, won the right to purchase the motel.

Mansions officials said 50 of the motel’s 60 rooms will be converted into studio apartments and a community room will be added to the facility.
