Gun Control to Be Focus of Debate at Soka

Share

Gun control will be at issue in a debate Thursday as part of the Soka University of America’s human rights lecture series.

“Gun Control: A Constitutional Quagmire or Much Ado About Nothing” is part of the program Soka has sponsored since 1992.

Fred Gaines, president of the San Fernando Valley Bar Assn., will moderate the discussion between Sandra Froman of the National Rifle Assn. and Josh Sugarmann of the Violence Policy Center in Washington, D.C.

“We want to create a platform where both sides can be heard by the community, to examine the rights and responsibilities of gun owners, for people to think about these issues even before they become gun owners,” said Deborah diCesare, director of program development at Soka’s Calabasas campus.

The free public event will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday on the campus at 26800 W. Mulholland Highway.
