* Orange County has dropped plans for an 800-acre business/industrial park and will build a greenbelt instead (April 30). In most cities, when such a parcel comes available, the first thought is to create a public park. In Orange County, a park is the second thought. In Los Angeles, a park is unthinkable.

Many of my concerned neighbors support the Playa Vista mega-development because “it’s the best we could hope for--the previous plan was worse.” Unfortunately, they are right, and Los Angeles will continue to be the most park-poor city in the civilized world.
