Workers Over 90
The Times on May 5 covers the best and the worst examples of our human nature. It is difficult to comprehend a person who intentionally kills innocent children (“Preschool Was Target, Driver Says”), and we see far too much of this dark side. The same front page has one of the most inspiring articles about the best side of human nature that I have ever read. “Working 9 to 5 at Age 95” is tremendous. Far too many people seem to adopt the outlook that “I walk slower so I won’t go anywhere.” Wouldn’t life be great if we all adopted the attitude of Victor Borge--”I walk slower, but I see more.”
I have reached the age when people ask when I plan to retire. I respond that if John Glenn can travel in space at age 77, I can’t imagine ever wanting to retire from the work that I enjoy.

As a 70-year-old psychotherapist and writer, I thought the time was past when I would be one of the younger members of any group, but I’m just a kid compared to the folks in “From 9 to 5 at 95.” Elders like these are truly an inspiration to us youngsters.
