IBM Developing New Server Software

Bloomberg News

International Business Machines Corp., the world’s largest computer maker, is developing software that links servers to a range of electronic devices, which IBM is betting will surge in popularity. Today, cellular phones, pagers and television set-top boxes run on different operating systems. That forces computer makers to create special software to communicate with each device. IBM’s program to run the devices will act as a translator and gatekeeper to a company’s server, IBM said. Shares of Armonk, N.Y.-based IBM fell $3 to close at $232.88 on the New York Stock Exchange.
