A group formed to bring attention to human rights in Vietnam has collected more than 4,000 signatures toward its goal of 100,000 that it hopes to present on a petition to Gov. Gray Davis. Americans for Human Rights in Vietnam Action, a small, Anaheim-based organization established in April, collected most of the signatures at recent rallies in Westminster marking the fall of Saigon, said co-founder Dennis Batdorf. It has also placed the petitions at businesses in Little Saigon, and has copies available to be downloaded and printed at the group’s Internet home page: https://hometown.aol.com/ahrvn.

The petition calls on Vietnam to restore human rights, hold open elections, release prisoners of conscience and establish freedom of assembly and religion. The group is looking for more volunteers to help with the petition campaign. Information: (714) 617-1674.
