5 Women in Top 10 Navy School Grads

The No. 1 graduate at the Naval Academy this year is a woman, as is No. 2, not to mention Nos. 4, 6 and 9. Women made up only 15% of the Class of 1999. It was the best showing yet for women at the Annapolis, Md., academy, where class standing depends on more than just good grades. Academy officials also consider military competence and conduct (given about 25% weight) and athletic achievements (10%). The top graduate is Mary Godfrey of Dousman, Wis.
