From Times Wire Reports

Polish police detonated explosives outside the former Nazi death camp of Auschwitz and detained a radical Roman Catholic who boasted that he had mined the area. Kazimierz Switon has led a campaign by fundamentalist Catholics and fringe rightist groups to erect hundreds of crosses at Auschwitz, to the anger of Jewish groups who regard it as a desecration of the largest cemetery of European Jewry. Switon said he had planted mines at the protest site to deter the government from trying to evict him.
