From Times Wire Reports

A suspected Nazi collaborator, denied the right to use the 5th Amendment to shield himself from prosecution abroad, left the United States rather than testify about his World War II activities in Lithuania, the Justice Department said. The effort by Aloyzas Balsys, 86, to invoke the 5th Amendment ended with a Supreme Court ruling last June. The justices said a defendant cannot use the amendment’s protection from self-incrimination to avoid prosecution outside the United States. The Justice Department said Balsys chose to leave the United States for Lithuania rather than testify.
