Re Ronald O. Richards’ Oct. 29 letter: The nexus between the Jew and the Holy Land existed even before “2,000 years.” There was no “Palestine” before WWI. That entity was created by the occupying powers of Britain and France. Israel was also a creature of the West, but even the small part of the land bought by the Israelis was hungrily coveted by Arab leaders. That hunger led to invasion in 1948 and a bone in the Arab throat that has not been dislodged to this day. Promised land and property when the Arab legions prevailed and encouraged to clear the playing field for the invasion, the villagers left, to be ghettoized by their Arab brethren for 50 years.

Is modern-day Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East, to lay down its defenses and welcome back those whose hate has been nurtured for all these years by their Arab brothers?
