Roques Is Doing His Share
Ryan Roques had been playing well anyway, a bright spot in the secondary and along with Joey Strycula one of the few constants in a second consecutive season of turnover among the defensive backs.
“I’m proud of Ryan,” Coach Bob Toledo said. “He’s playing good.”
But the events of last week meant recognition. Roques, a starting cornerback, had two interceptions against Arizona, the first time that has been done by a Bruin since safety Larry Atkins a little more than two years ago.
“I can play well all game and if no one throws the ball my way, no one notices that I’m playing well,” Roques said. “I like the interceptions. I like to run with the ball too. But those two, I caught them both on the way down.”
Neither was returned for any yardage. But that gave him four interceptions this season. Two more in the final two games--next week against Washington and Nov. 20 against USC--will tie him with Atkins for the most in a season in the last six years.
