Diodes Inc., a semiconductor manufacturer in Westlake Village, reported record revenues of $21.8 million for the third quarter that ended Sept. 30, a 45% increase over the $15 million reported for the third quarter of 1998.

Net income in the quarter rose to a record $1.7 million, a 204% increase over the $554,000 reported a year earlier. Also rising to record levels in the third quarter were earnings per share of 31 cents, versus 11 cents in the third quarter of last year.

The third-quarter results compare with second-quarter revenues of $18.2 million, a 19% increase; net income of $825,000, a 104% increase, and earnings per share of 16 cents, a 94% increase.

Michael Rosenberg, president and chief executive of Diodes, attributed the record results to higher unit sales, greater stability in average selling prices and production expansion at Diodes-China, where the company manufactures a variety of semiconductor packages.

“Our most recent $4.5-million expansion, currently being implemented at Diodes-China, will boost capacity by approximately 25% and is expected to result in even greater manufacturing profits,” Rosenberg said. “We continue to benefit from the fact that electronic products are becoming ever smaller, pushing the demand for sub-miniature surface-mount discrete semiconductors of the type that we manufacture at Diodes-China and Diodes-Taiwan.”

Diodes services the automotive, electronics, computing and telecommunications industries.
