Jobless Rate

Re “Unemployment Falls to 4.1%, Best in 30 Years,” Nov. 6: What does the term “employment” really mean? Are 11% of the American work force who earn minimum wage considered employed? Is it possible to make a living on $5.15 an hour? These are some issues that your article failed to address. In praising the unemployment rate, your article was not “a double dose of good news,” but rather an indicator of how badly Americans want to believe that in 1999 nearly everyone is benefiting from our country’s economic prosperity.
