Mexico will allow U.S. citizens to bring $300 worth of goods into the country over the holidays, raising the limit from $50, responding to a plea from Mexicans living in the United States who want to bring presents to their families. Finance Ministry spokesman Marco Provencio told local television that duty-free import levels for Mexican residents shopping across the 2,100-mile border with the United States would remain at $50. “We’re doing this for Mexicans who live abroad,” Provencio said. The higher limits on the value of goods that can be brought into Mexico by U.S. citizens traveling by road will be in effect from Dec. 1 to Jan. 10. Tourists visiting Mexico by air have long been allowed to bring in $300 worth of goods.
