Long Beach State 85, Cal State Dominguez Hills 51--Playing against a Division II team, Long Beach State did what it was supposed to do in its home opener.

The 49ers were never threatened from beginning to end in an easy victory. However, Coach Wayne Morgan was concerned by the plethora of turnovers. The 49ers (1-1) had 24 more added to the 23 committed in their season-opening loss to Pepperdine last Saturday.

“When you play up tempo, you assume that you will turn the ball over a few times,” Morgan said.

“I’m comfortable with 12, 15 or 16 turnovers. When it gets over 20, then that’s where you start to worry.”

There were few worries against the Toros. Long Beach took a 40-20 halftime lead and the Toros got no closer than 18 the rest of the way. Senior center Mate Milisa led the 49ers with 21 points.

The 49ers played without star guard Ramel Lloyd, who sat out the game because of tendinitis in both knees.

“I’m very concerned,” Morgan said, adding that he could play Sunday against Southern Illinois. “He’s one of our best players.”

Antrone Lee added 12 points and D’Cean Bryant had 11 as Long Beach shot 45% from the field. From three-point range, the 49ers continued to shine as they made 11 of 23 tries.
