Panama Out for Pincay
Jockey Laffit Pincay Jr., who begins the third week of Hollywood Park’s autumn meet 13 victories shy of Bill Shoemaker’s record of 8,833, won’t be visiting his native Panama next week.
Pincay, who has nine winners through the first 10 days at Hollywood Park, was scheduled to leave for Panama on Dec. 2, then return to Los Angeles on Dec. 5. The next day he will be going to Las Vegas for the annual Jockeys’ Guild meetings.
A guild director, Pincay didn’t want to take any chances that a travel problem could keep him from the meetings, where one of the items under discussion will be ongoing negotiations between the guild and the National Thoroughbred Racing Assn. regarding insurance.
Second to Pat Valenzuela in the local standings, Pincay has only two mounts on today’s card. He will be aboard first-time starter Here’s Pico in the first and longshot La Season in the fifth. Two other mounts were scratched Tuesday morning.
