Roger Clinton Claims Victory in First ‘Camp David Open’
President Clinton’s brother, Roger, took home the first “Camp David Open” victory on Friday, as he and several other players including the president finished up their Thanksgiving golf game.
“I really brought home the hardware today,” Roger Clinton said, referring to a trophy the other players had made up for this first family tournament and were to present to him later in the evening at the presidential retreat.
The president’s brother had a seven-stroke lead in the carry-over game that started on Thanksgiving Day at Maple Run Golf Course, east of Thurmont, Md., and continued Friday morning at Penn National. He finished with a five-stroke victory but declined to say how his brother had placed.
The other players on the mostly rainy day were the president’s stepfather, Dick Kelley, brothers-in-law Hugh and Tony Rodham, and Hollywood producer Harry Thomason.
Sporting a tam-o’-shanter cap and a rain jacket, the president shook hands and signed a few autographs for other golfers before his motorcade headed back to Camp David.
