Cochran, N.Y. Law Firms to Merge
Attorney Johnnie L. Cochran Jr., who on Thursday taped the final show of “Johnnie Cochran Tonight” for Court TV, has merged his law firm with a top New York firm to create one of the largest plaintiff’s personal injury practices in the country.
The Cochran firm combines 33 lawyers from Cochran, Cherry, Givens & Smith in Los Angeles with 30 attorneys from Schneider, Kleinick, Weitz, Damashek & Shoot in New York. The new firm also has offices in Georgia and Alabama.
Cochran, prominent as a member of the defense team that won an acquittal in the O.J. Simpson murder trial, was named Trial Lawyer of the Year in 1995 by the National Law Journal.
Two of his new partners, Ivan Schneider and Harvey Weitz, were named to this year’s list of top litigators in New York. The new firm will focus on civil litigation, especially accident and medical malpractice cases.
