* Lady Hoops Basketball Gear of Beverly Hills was sued by rival And 1, a Rosemont, Pa.-based company that claims Lady Hoops’ logo of a ball-dribbling cartoon figure is so close to And 1’s that it would confuse customers. Larry Burge, an attorney for Lady Hoops, called the lawsuit “totally groundless.” In its suit filed in U.S. District Court in Philadelphia, And 1 also claims that Lady Hoops is trying to capitalize on its name by calling a line of shorts “Dazzle,” nearly identical to And 1’s “Game Dazzle” shorts. And 1 is demanding an injunction to halt any further use of the logo or “Dazzle” name, as well as reimbursement of any profit. Burge disputed the claim that the logos are similar and noted that And 1 makes no women’s basketball apparel, which is Lady Hoops’ only line.
