Hungry for Hungarian chicken paprikash? Drop by Judy’s Kosher Restaurant & Catering for a takeout dinner that includes a big serving of chicken and spaetzle (the tiny dumplings are called nokedli in Hungarian), roasted potato, some nicely cooked vegetables and two sesame-sprinkled dinner rolls. Chef-owner Judy Weiss is Hungarian and renowned for her veal goulash as well as the paprikash.

Situated in the trendy La Brea Avenue shopping district, Judy’s is a glatt kosher restaurant. Glatt kosher refers to strict standards for the condition of meat animals after slaughter. Informally, the term is often used to signify a high level of kosher practice.

The best day for takeout at Judy’s is Friday, when the counter is filled with food ready to go. On that day, the restaurant opens at 8:30 a.m. to serve customers preparing for the Sabbath. Other days, takeout is by order only, starting at 11 a.m. The restaurant also delivers.
