Arborfest Offers Variety of Plants Native to State

Share

November is fast approaching, and it’s a good month to plant California natives. Unfortunately, native plants aren’t always easy to find in the nursery, but you can buy a variety at this year’s Arborfest at Fullerton Arboretum.

Consider plants such as manzanita (Arctostaphylos), a sculpted shrub that sports a profusion of pink or white bell-shaped flowers from winter into spring.

Ceanothus is another eye-catching native. This mounding ground cover or evergreen shrub bursts into a startling display of blue, pink or white flowers come spring.

The creeping snowberry (Symphoricarpos mollis) is another good addition to the garden. It has beautiful white fruit in fall and winter.

The 14th annual Arborfest and Fall Plant Sale is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Sunday at the Fullerton Arboretum, 1900 Associated Road. (714) 278-3579. $5 for adults, children 17 and under free. Free parking.
