Wreckage Linked to Blackbeard’s Era

Divers exploring wreckage believed to be from Blackbeard’s ship have discovered a cannon that links the debris to the time when the buccaneer prowled the waters off North Carolina, a historian said. Archeologists diving at the site of what could be the ship Queen Anne’s Revenge retrieved two cannons this week, the smaller of which is marked with the number “713”--a likely reference to the year 1713, project historian David Moore said. In 1996, divers found a 14-inch bronze Spanish bell dated 1709, another link to Blackbeard’s time.
