Times Writer’s Story on Cheese Makers Honored

Share

Times Staff Writer Emily Green’s piece on disappearing British farmhouse cheeses (“Cheshire’s Last Stand,” June 23), was named the best article profiling British cheese at the 1999 British Cheese Awards.

In the story, Green wrote about how cultural shifts and industrialization had resulted in the near-extinction of what had been one of England’s culinary treasures. She also profiled the makers of five exemplary cheeses that survive: Cheshire’s Lancelot and Lucy Appleby, Cheddar’s Jamie Montgomery, Stilton’s Colston Bassett, Caerphilly’s Chris Duckett and Lancashire’s Ruth Kirkham.
