Irreplaceable Land vs. More Housing

Share

* Thank you for publishing the Oct. 15 article on Barham Ranch.

I had no idea that Santiago Oaks Regional Park was threatened by a potential SunCal Cos. development.

I have been a visitor to that park for several years and enjoyed the beautiful oaks, hills and creek. It is one of our truly natural parks that contains riparian, oak and scrub habitat and the birds and animals that are unique to those areas. It can never be replaced.

I applaud Orange Unified School District for fighting the lawsuit brought by the Serrano Water District to force a sale.

A lawsuit, which is being paid for by the developer, does a severe disservice to the water district customers and to the public who visit the park. I understand that the purpose of the land when sold to the OUSD by the Carpenter Irrigation District was specifically for education, agricultural and environmental studies, certainly not for one more housing tract.

Let us hope the Serrano Water District board will drop this suit, realizing that it is unethical and not within its mandate.
