Judge Denies New Trial in Bomb Case
A federal judge in Denver denied a new trial for Oklahoma City bombing conspirator Terry L. Nichols, saying that information the government withheld from the defense would not have changed the jury’s verdict or sentence. Lawyers for Nichols, 44, argued that he should have received a new trial because prosecutors failed in their duty to turn over 43,000 FBI memos that the defense said may have shown someone other than Nichols assisted in the 1995 bombing plot. But U.S. District Judge Richard Matsch who presided over Nichols’ trial disagreed.
