United Parcel Service Inc. said it will take the company public in early November, after receiving approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission earlier than anticipated. The package delivery giant hopes to raise an estimated $3 billion in the initial public offering, according to a filing July 29. UPS will send proxy materials to its shareholders through mid-October to get approval of the plan, the SEC filing said.

AMR Corp.’s American Airlines flight attendants rejected a tentative labor contract with the carrier, sending the parties back to negotiations. About 73% of members who voted cast ballots against the accord, the union said, with about 82% of American’s 20,000 flight attendants voting. The flight attendants don’t plan to protest unless further bargaining and mediation fail. The proposed four-year agreement, which included a 15.9% raise over six years, drew opposition because it wiped out a profit-sharing plan.
