It’s Worth Revising Those Documents

Jan Hickenbottom’s response to the inquiry about an association’s authority to demand unit keys (“Turning Over Key to Unit Raises the Issue of Privacy,” Condo Q&A;, Aug. 29) is comprehensive but misses the point.

The association’s governing documents should be amended, not defended. In addition to the privacy issues, the risks for associations outweigh any benefit.

Governing documents of most associations authorize associations to enter a unit in case of a true emergency, and 24-hour locksmiths are available for such purposes.
