Two new stations planned for Irvine will help the Orange County Fire Authority keep up with the city’s rapid growth at the Irvine Spectrum and meet the county’s demand for a regional training center, authority officials said.

Planning commissioners gave their approval Thursday to a 10,000-square-foot fire station planned for the Spectrum on a 1.13-acre site near Cushing and Hubble.

The training center, proposed for Irvine at Jamboree and Tustin Ranch roads, would consolidate the operations now spread thin among several “antiquated and outdated” buildings in Orange, said Capt. Scott Brown, fire authority spokesman.
